The beloved indie adventure game Oxenfree is now available on Netflix as the streaming platform strengthens its fledgling gaming wing.
One of the best indie games on the market, this mystery thriller is free to download for all Netflix subscribers for iOS and Android. Oxenfree: Netflix Edition can be found in Google Play Store (opens in a new tab) and Application Store (opens in a new tab).
Originally released for PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2016, Oxenfree is a supernatural thriller that follows a group of teenagers as they explore a mysterious island. You will gradually discover its secrets and strange spooky events thanks to the coming-of-age story, which shares more than a few similarities with Stranger Things.

“You play as Alex, a 16-year-old who introduces herself to her new brother, and when you meet friends on a distant beach, you accidentally open a rift in time, releasing ghosts that threaten your existence,” said Oxenfree’s host. writer Adam Hines w press release (opens in a new tab).
“The gameplay is all about exploring and talking as you juggle dealing with supernatural and personal relationships in your high school clique.”
Oxenfree is just the latest standout indie game to hit Netflix. In June, the streaming giant added the beloved tactical turn-based strategy game Into the Breach, and in May it launched the action RPG Moonlighter. The addition of Oxenfree is no surprise considering Netflix acquired the game developer Night School Studios in September last year.
More games are coming to Netflix in the future. The acclaimed Kentucky Route Zero point-and-click adventure game will be added along with the original TV spin-offs of Narcos: Cartel Wars and Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales.
The streaming giant has been betting on mobile games in the last few months, even though no one seems to be playing them.
